The route

After the pick up from your hotel or at a predetermined rendezvous point, we start our drive to the historical Askyfou plateau of Sfakia. The landscape is constantly filled with beautiful images, mountains and greenery. Passing through areas of particular historical importance for Crete we arrive at Askyfou. Our first stop offers a spectacular view of the whole of the Askyfou plateau and the mountains above. Its also the starting point for the hike to the Turkish forts if you choose to. At over 150 years old they hold a huge significance to the area and to the rebellion against the Turks. We then continue our day with a visit to the famous Askyfou war museum. The museum is internationally renowned and its exhibits are among the largest private collections of the Second World War. A journey through history that will surely impress you. Our day ends with a visit to a traditional winery where you will participate in a guided tour, enjoy wine tastings and have a full Cretan meal. The impressive cellars, the huge selection of wines and the friendly staff will surely satisfy you.

What you will need

Comfortable shoes are suggested. If you need trekking poles for the short hike to the fort we will supply them. Also, Crete gets very hot during the summer season, even early in the morning, so water, a hat, sunglasses and sun lotion are a must.If you have any questions or specific needs feel free to discuss them with us before the excursion.

Hiking is not mandatory

Our trips combine sightseeing with small hiking trails and walking routes. It’s up to your preference if you want to hike or do the trails by car.
